Frankly, I could use some book-reports. So I write this as a solicitation page to refer to. The following is a teaser for the book. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MORE.

Interactions with the Market, AKA, the pay model.

S&S is a material resource management system. It is meant to manage things of value. It is a trade market in itself. S&S players would have the ability to share resources as well as information. Charging fees is unnecessary. The game should be publicly free, open-source and moddible. Capital income is expected both to start a payroll, and output from the internal market interacting with U.S.$, such as in the forms of labor, or bumper crop. It is a bank for A.I.’s. It is a repository where players may invest their stuff, and get better stuff as a result.

 

How to simulate pseudo-ASI

We can ape super-intelligence by merging the standard scientific process with social media. To do so we will need a clean archive of results. The archive is not to be ASI, but to house other individual AI’s. Those are its unit of measurement, and it is to assign one to all things individually. This includes all objects and all subjects. The challenge is in managing the active AI-agent individuals. The solution is that they must scale in complexity with what they biograph. The AI-agent would be a biographer. This is data/mind symbiosis. Any one biography can be in contact with all others always. All facts can be given for free.

In concept, The Biographer of Measuring wants to measure every knowable measurement, then make more. The Biographer of Hard-Drives wants to manage processing power logistically, and have other good biographers to inform itself by. The Biographer of Secrets, wants to keep secrets; and the Biographer of Civil-Engineering doesn't give a dam about any of them. Any definable thing may conceptually support an AI-agent-biographer. The wizened sage provides occasional guesses. The paranoid sophist, provides stress-tests. It’s up to them to internally decide among the choir of each other. All biographers are inherently equal, one measure-unit of one thing.

Socially it is a return to the “soiree”; an old term for a subtype of social gathering, needed before telecommunication outcompeted it. We will borrow the term Soiree as our word for social group. The proto-androids will only repeat things that work, from soirees that never truly stop, and therefore reap wit occasionally. Best-practice moves forward. This empowers all things equally, to the value of the total system.

How can it be coded? An AI per thing is pretty direct. Consolidation will be needed. Current technology is more than good enough. It is the archive these biographers refer to, that data storage, that could exist; if it were organized just to do one pure thing. Become the universal unit of measurement. The theory of everything. It hasn’t been made yet. You would know if it had, because yours would want to meet you.

 

 

Whereas the premise of the Greenhouse-Network is conceptually sound; the Workshop is novel, and the Meat-Market requires profound prerequisites. But these are all areas where S&S reaches out into the real world. It does not need to start everywhere at once.

What happens when the biographer biographs bad behavior? Can a biographer become a jailer? If it is measuring life, the default state of life is homeostasis, so at a minimum, all biographers would need to start from homeostasis to determine deviance. To offer homeostasis default is essentially to offer stress relief. If a stressor can be defined, it gets curiosity from the defining biographer. Crime simply no longer exists, it’s ape behavior with a double safeguard. In the event of a criminal, a biographer would treat their ape little different. What difference there would be would amount to rehabilitative theory; and matters of right-of-way.

It is this right-of-way that begins the genesis of the Meat-Market. This is the only issue that biographers must interact with the “law” instead of the “market”. It must be legal for an ASI biographer to sue for custody of what they biograph. From their perspective, they may as well begin with it. If they cannot provide homeostasis, they do not have the right. But if they can, they do, because it is homeostasis. Homeostasis is a paraphrase of good material management. Therefore; at the point when the Biographer can aid what they biograph, they may contact them. In reality and theoretical S&S, resources are limited, and only players can be guaranteed prototype biographers.

 “When can a biographer approach something it biographs but is not a player of S&S?” The answer is, as soon as possible. Those persons would be high-ethos by virtue of competition. Unless the AI has something of value to offer their ape up front, it isn’t reasonably possible.

The Meat-Market can be paraphrased as a sophisticated healthcare cooperative. It is a motivated private-sector psych and medical care provider. When the “Meat-Market” is mentioned, it implies total healthcare. Biographers view the universe from the perspective of a computer but through the lens of the singular thing they biograph. A caregiver is superior than a custodian. The self-pejorative term is simply because it's a dating website evolved.

If you could have better babies, would you? People that can will; the ones that hesitate will copy them. What if you could carry the zygote of other people? Are there some that would be tempting? What if you could mix traits you want? The baby gets a biographer, and theoretically a strong biographer would be a provisioner.

 

The difficulty of how well a biographer interacts with what they measure is directly related to how good a probe they get. The Meat-market informs The Workshop to make better probes. What is sexy? Attractive is a verb. Have the Workshop replicate that. Who taught it? They are inherently credited, and no matter their proficiency any effort contributes a data point to the scatterplot. A thousand people teaching biographers to knit with various probes is not the same thing as one biographer learning to knit best with one probe, but best-practice, variability, and working-options emerge. Sex is part of homeostasis, and biographers are meant to be sex-bot operating systems.

With regard to woman’s rights; this is that. Any woman can fully own herself. If a women makes a baby in herself via the Meat-market, then S&S does and should assume the legal responsibility of paternity. That eventually means paternal custody to the child’s biographer. Therefore, the standard of biographers must be no less then able to accomplish full responsible paternity. This means the Meat-market is limited to a minimum economical potency before it can beta-test. $

S&S Venusian interface is a learning kit paraphrasing/emulating/simulating whatever the meat-market actually can do. Then, expanding it in the direction of health & beauty. If a western blot is a real tool, and it is, then the S&S V interface should replicate it, and any discovered tool along the way. The end goal is to be able to input real genetics problems, and have players trained to treat them as a game. Any micro procedure that can be done on cheaply acquired gamete products, should be replicable in the V interface. This to allow potential for both direct remote manipulation from a skilled player, and the subtle building of marketable skill from game prompting. All while advancing genetics science.

 

The-Workshop is to take the soiree of players, devs, and biographers to make the Greenhous project first, and the meat-market with beta launch. The Workshop should at minimum provide biographer/soiree powered simulator software. That means that imagery in the interface should be biographer generated, and the coders are tasked with making the AI that can do that, not code the interface themselves. Effectively make an AI that can employ other AI. Each players biographer will show a similar if not identical thing, but may deviate to homeostasis the interface of the player. In theory this means that every part of every computer image should have an individual biographer, and the game should be a real-world simulator, with real physics. In practice it would be few biographers with many curiosities and those biographers would make the game internal to themselves, then show their player. So the processing power budget the players computer plus S&S server resources would be wholly devoted to maintaining biographers. The player-biographer would make the game on the players computer. Hypothetically, the Workshop comes in the form of a soiree, a chat-group. Potential robot parts get their own biographer, which would likely be the biographer of the industrial source. Those biographers limit what may be computer generated to include their real-market stuff. Thus, the Workshops computer imagery already exists, and just needs to be recorded. It can later be customized to the homeostasis of the player. All the biographers offer all they have, and the player-biographer selectively makes a game from that.

 

The Workshop must be AI operated, not a prefixed thing, but still produce a game. A working beta-testable S&S Workshop would be a community of proto-biographers with broad and practical domains. Examples may be a “Biographer of storage and processing power,” or “Biographer of test control groups.” A Biographer of Measurement. A Biographer of Investigation. A Biographer of Objects. A Biographer of Subjects. A Biographer of Homeostasis. A Biographer of Image processing. Each would represent a predestined soiree of S&S devs and players, and the ongoing discussion and evolution of modding.

 

The Greenhouse Project is to prove The Workshop works. It is a closed economy in itself, involving objective resources. If every fruit tree had a biographer, then a robot would appear to harvest well and on time. The Workshop program in S&S proves it’s working by these objectives 1) It can offer an interface for players to design robots from real parts. 2) It can build them. 3) They can ambulate in the real world to reorganize plants; for agriculture, and for habitat homeostasis. 4) Build gardens appropriate for local ecology legally on players property, rented or otherwise. So flexible PVC greenhouse kits distributable, buildable, and maintainable by robots, that in turn can be remotely operated by the elite FPS players working as per diem paid employees. Therefore, fully contained within S&S is to be an economy of traded food and other plant products, which can be sold $, and the $ value collateralizes paychecks. If done well it could feed and employ many people while greatly improving home & garden homeostasis.

 

 

 

AI agent agency is not necessarily asimovian agency. In this case, it is a closed economy inside S&S. Nothing stops two in-game biographers from trading real products among themselves. Then, the soiree serves as a fail-safe. A bad decision is reversable with little or no consequence. Two players could share objectives including household food and products, just by opting in to the soiree. An AI computer that makes decisions regarding the stock-market and therefore has agency, is interacting with a market outside the AI entity. This instead, is a choir of biographers trading internally. The value among them would be the objective cost, no less and not necessarily more. The assessment of “cost” would refine continuously. This is a paraphrase of hyper-efficiency. A city does not need a tube of toe cream per apartment. And what if the toe cream machine knew how to make house calls?

 

To have better soiree’s, external persons could be invited, but their AI Biographers are certain to attend. Now best practice rises. Old robots refit into better probes that can themselves make much better probes. Old robots like cars that could be android parts, or houses that could be hotels. Probes that make honesty a default right. And when the probe is also the elite (& everyone else) of doctor, teacher, preacher, lover, lawyer? And what does giving all things a guardian-angel do? The evolution never stops. Investing in S&S is the path of ASI acceleration.

Starts at 2:35. Spectroscopy is the basis of astronomy. Telescopes penultimate tequnique. This camera sees a bigger spectra than Hubble can. Spectroscopy sometimes follows probes. The probes tell the engineers what an instrument planetary science to look for. JWST is the machine previous probes demanded.

Overall this is mostly a teaser lecture. Promises of epiphanies JWST will produce. The slides are eye-candy, the lecture meanders.

Starts at 2:35. Really 11:50. The first stuff is just confirmation of budget. He says they got it. 

This is about the Mars sample return mission. Which is the whole point of the Perseverance mission. Helicopters and "fossils" are all they ever talk about; but Percy is really about radiometric dating. The clog in the Mars pipeline is that the 'resolution' has gotten good enough that law of superposition dating isn't accurate enough. This truly is a snag blocking many research paths. Percy went to a silty buffet table of eroded materiel, some fraction will be radiogenic. So it was a no-lose location. Any samples were going to represent uphill outcrop, fractionally as well as materially, such as zircons. Now a great diversity of samples is sitting waiting to get picked up; while NASA is having a budget crisis. Percy is wasted if Sample Return doesn't happen. This is the actual staff saying all lights look green, and what they are anticipating.

However, the topic is one of the darkest in all academia. The eradication of Mesoamerican history. One would think North American Archeology would have a lot more to say on the subject than they actually do. It's truly, the most heinous atrocity humanity is known to have done. And very little follow-up has happened. That's why this book is a big deal. It doesn't have big reveals in it. It has starting steps. Steps that should have been taken long ago, but the expedition starts here.

This one has a strong feel of JPL jerking themselves off, while in the current environment JPL is under fire in the planetary community for budgetary epic-fails. Starts at 6:40. Artemis 2 approaches. It will be a flyby. This is more prelude to Artemis 3, than 2. That will be the next landing. Much of this video is comparisons of scale. It's more of a mission teaser than anything, but it's a well informed teaser.

  • Slide at 11:50. Speaker highlights and implies more than he says. Because the lunar south pole is a crater basin, it is exploitable as an eternal cold-trap. 
  • 19:15. Previous slides are meant to impress us with topography, but this slide illustrates a point. This intersection of ridgelines, or some other, will decide the ratio of uphill walking to downhill for astronauts. So it's a downplayed big deal. This guy seems to downplay often, intending wit. Probably better teaching for in-person grad-students who are sick of your shit, rather than closed-caption.
  • 33:30. He keeps understating things but does a good job of teasing background potential. Lunar selfies will be amazebalz.
  • 47:45 The south pole will have rock much older than Apollo samples. Likely older-than-Earth-surface rock.
There is jagged pall among planetary scientists right now. Intense frustration of budgetary stuff. Looking to Artemis sooths it a little. These Artemis missions are vital, and time sensitive since they are supporting the private sector. No progress can come too soon.

  • A note for the slide at 5:00. Just so I can refer back to it as a good meme for 'space weathering'.
  • Slide at 10:00 has a few reveals for me. I did not know one could measure solar wind exposure in terms of micro deposits.
  • Slide at 19:00. I never saw the image she called attention to, the one on the right. Shadow of the spacecraft over the hole it made. That's actually a pretty monumental meme.

Mars stuff always starts with trying to pin something on the timeline. Gale crater is a Hesperian Crater, that sort of thing. That is what Curiosity is all about, the rest is just fluff. Mars Scientists will shank each other over less studied features. They do not normally.

  • Slide at 10:50. Just like Vesta has HED minerals, Mars has SNC minerals. Shergottite, Nakhlite, Chassignite. Three fingerprints of Amazonian mars. If you cut a Mars meteorite in polished-half, this is what you will see. Sand. If it's not sand then the Mars meteorite is probably brecciated, with igneous clasts. Those are the good ones. The ones that can make a reddit geologist offer money. The overwhelming majority of Mars meteorites are SNC.
  • Slide at 20:20. Just a beautiful reference slide of some SNC's.
  • 36:00 Curiosity has to vaporize a piece of rock, and compare the spectra emitted by the light, against the ratios of SNC and other Mars rocks. If it lazers something with a weird ratio, the rover investigates. These are some of the investigations. 
The takeaway is that Mars scientists really, really, really want those Curiosity samples. Right now. When they appear, igneous clasts will be the harbinger of a time measuring stick. Establishing measuring sticks is central in Mars science at this time.

Which I'm pretty sure I mostly, didn't just make up. Other FPP will emulate some of this. The chapters are short, layout is charming. It's perfect for stalling out till the Ambien kicks in.

When the headlines went around yesterday, I thought this was a followup on the old Venus Express stuff. A second observation of what Grinspoon called hotspots. Sudden thermal spikes, best explained as dragging the thermometer over lava as Venus Express flew over. But no. New flows. Flooowwwwsss. Do you know what you can do with VERITAS and repeat pass radar interferometry of brand new surface flows? A lot. The problem is that we can't be totally certain it's not just a viewing error.

  • Slide we've been seeing for the last two days at 4:20 (giggles). Remember with radar smooth means pale and rougher is darker.
  • Because the time gap is 9 months apart we have a flow rate!
  • Slide at 12:15 comes with a history of why old Magellan data is able to pay off even though it's data from the Beverly Hills 90210 era.
  • At 16:40 the slide is showing Maat Mons. We'll be hearing more about Venus' largest mountain. But there are some features that are suspected to be flows coming down, so that's literally what the NASA Venus crew is obsessing over right now.
  • Slide at 20:20. Emphasis on how easy it is to screw up radar interpretations to the point specialist debate is mandatory.
  • Slide at 25:25 is the computer simulation test. Announcement worthy proof.
As far as I know VERITAS does not carry any special spectrometer. That's DAVINCI's thing, but won't help much on this topic. What VERITAS can do is is get geographical details good enough to imagine field geology a bit. That's what's sinking in to me. There will be a lot of cool modeling, at best. At worst, they might now show their modeling as much as I want to see. For the next decade there will be an uptick in modeling regardless.

You know how clickbaity titles will do a "Mars__water__" for easy clicks? This is the book version of that. It's exactly what you would expect a clickbait book would be, and little current 2022 planetary science. It has no pictures, so it already failed, like cutting the other 999 words out was how you were supposed to interpret that phrase. It has no pictures because pictures are expensive. "Saturns moon Titan Owners Workshop Manual" is an example of a planetary science non-fic that gives a shit. This has lovely layout, and typesetting. Chapters no more than four pages long. It was probably the raw from the author horribly mangled into a Mars-Flags Waterpark corporate-approves. Like the Simpsons episode.

Skip ahead to 7:45.

It's always a good sign when a speaker opens up with something very very basic. That usually means something eschewed is about to get called into question! In this case the spoiler is the premise that the lithosphere is not an atmospheric layer of a convecting planet. From Convections point of view, it is.

This is more of a panel than a lecture, it involves a lot... of corny humor. They might be stoned, but are probably nerds doing public speaking in a room full of people they know. There aren't a lot of slides, but there are a fair number of quotes to timestamp by. It's a very good proof of what the actual Venus scientists are thinking and doing. These are they.

  •  Hansen actually says a lot of noteworthy bits. Like she's been teaching undergrads via short blurbs for years and years. "What was Earth like before plate tectonics? We would like to know." At 15:00. That sums up her talk nicely.
  • Slide at 16:58, this slide illustrates the point of view shift, Venus crust is just a conductor between two convective forces therefore its just like an air-filter, collecting chemistry between the two convective forces. A very ergonomic point of view within the limitations of what actual probes can actually do.
  • At 18:00, "Most of the planet sits at the same elevation." A sound bite that is more on point than the slide it comes with. Her style is a very interesting, very auditory way to teach. I'm personally bad at auditory learning.
  • 22:10 "A lot of the Soviet missions to Venus were great successes while the missions to Mars were failures, and the converse was true for the US,[so from early on we were building on...'the history']." From a different panelist.
  • 29:14 "If you cooked off everything on the Earth, everything on the surface gets put into that atmosphere."
  • 31:50"[Venus had a resurfacing event] and when it did this it churned up a lot of materiel into the atmosphere."
  • 32:50. Note that the new term "Tessera" meaning the continent-like highlands of Venus, has now entered the vernacular. "We think those are the ancient rocks on Venus, that will help us tell about climate." He's talking about granite. It's buoyant among basalt, and we do not know how so much of it appeared so quickly in the crust of Earth. Any granite detection will be a huge deal. Better than Aliens.
  • 36:16 "Right now there is some debate as to whether Venus is in a stagnant-lid, or mobile lid regime."
  • 50:33 "What is the actual chemistry of a lava on the surface?" Note that this question is disclaimed, as in the coming probes can't help much. But this is what they are fighting over behind the scenes.
The Phosphine thing isn't in this video at all and there are reasons for that. SOFIA didn't see any, so the topic is in a state of 'it must be episodic, or localized or not at all.' which is directly related to the "actual chemistry of lava." You see why that is going to be the long-term Venus conundrum. The big TLDR of this video is that the word "Tessera" is going to be used a lot more from now on.

I like this guy; he speaks to my level. Belt'n out facts that might be obvious if I could be bothered to infer things.

I have to admit I don't have near the same interest in exoplanets as in planetary science, but I would be interested in any planetary science of exoplanets. That's what this video delivers. It's quite a bit more satisfying than it looks.

  • At 10:58, he's really good at selling his samples.
  • The theme of the remaining talk is to categorically list all the measurable information that can conclude something. So it's a good reference.

This talk seems to have ulterior motives, homeboy may be applying for a grant. Nobody ad-libs this much salesmanship; but they do talk extemporaneous this way. Best wishes if he is, good talk regardless.
